Our talented and approachable team is passionate about continued education and staying up-to-date with the latest styling and industry trends. We are always excited to share our knowledge and expertise with you because our main goal is to empower you to maintain gorgeous and healthy hair between visits.
Each stylist participates in at least three professional education events each year that are hosted by Sharper Image. We bring in the leading industry professionals to train our team on the latest techniques to cut, colour and style your hair. We also train on how to keep your hair and scalp healthy and vibrant.
Owner Jenn Sharpe has served on the Alberta Apprenticeship Board since 2019 as a marker for the Journeyman Hairstylist practical exams. She's one of the people who decides whether an apprentice in this province becomes licensed. It's a standard she takes seriously, and it's the same one she applies to everyone who works at Sharper Image.
The majority of our team are professionally certified in the Curl Craft Cut method by Wella, a special cutting technique for those with natural curls.
We have certified Wella Color Masters on staff and are also certified in applying Babe Hair Extensions. Sharper Image Hair Design has been serving great people like you in Red Deer since January 2014.

Blonding, Balayage, Bronde & Custom Colours Start in Our Colour Room
Blonding, balayage, bronde, colour correction and custom shades are some of the most technical work we do. Getting it right takes the right formulas, the right products and a stylist who knows how your colour will respond. That is why we built a dedicated room.
The colour room in our salon has all the formulas, products and tools to help us give you the exact shades you are looking for. We are also working with the latest salon tech that helps us blend, measure and record your specific formula so we can pick up where we left off from your last service visit.

Yes, we have extension specialists who are certified in installing the latest extensions to add the volume and look you want. All extension services require a free client consultation to discuss your goals and the type of extension that best suits you. We will then provide a custom quotation for you.
Texture & Perming
We do a large amount of texturing and perming for clients across many cultures. If perming is part of how you wear your hair, we know it well.

We invest the time getting to know you because we know that your hair goes with you to many great places and events throughout your life.

We Never Start Your Service Without Knowing What You Want
The first thing we do is make sure the service time you have booked matches what you are hoping to get done. We want to be on the same page before anything begins.
From there we will ask you some simple questions to understand the details. We also love it when you come in with inspiration, so bring your photos, magazine clippings, whatever you have. Seeing where you are drawing inspiration from helps us make sure it works with your hair type, frames your face beautifully and gets you the look you are after.
We never take your scalp health or your hair care routine for granted either. If anything has changed, we want to know. It is a critical part of the foundation for doing great work with you.
We take the time to understand your individual preferences and desires so that every service we provide is customized for your needs. Our goal is to help you feel great when you leave the salon, looking good and feeling confident wherever you go next.

When you are in our care, we will make sure that the plan for your new look or style is clearly communicated and agreed upon between you and your stylist. We know every product line we carry, and we only stock products we stand behind, the ones we use ourselves and recommend to our own family and friends. Choose the Stylist Level That Fits You
We have five levels that recognize our stylists for their talent, skills and industry experience. All of our services are priced by the level and experience of our hairstylists, ranging from New Talent to Master. This gives you the ability to choose the level that is best suited for you.

New Talent
A New Talent has completed a hairstyling diploma program at a recognized college or institution and is now building the 2,800 hours they need to become a licensed Journeyman hairstylist. They work under the supervision of a Senior or above.
Journeyman
A Journeyman is licensed under the Alberta Apprenticeship Board and has completed every requirement to provide the full range of services we offer. They typically have one to three years of experience in the industry.
Senior
A Senior has three to seven years of experience. They have honed their craft in cutting and styling, and are developing more complex skills in advanced colour work and other specialty services.
Elite
An Elite has seven to ten years of experience. They are well versed in the latest cutting, styling and colour techniques, and have branched out into specialty services such as colour certifications and licensed extension work.
Master
A Master has ten or more years of experience and is comfortable taking on anything you bring them. Whatever vision you have for your look, they can do it. Our Masters also hold advanced certifications such as the Wella Color Master program, which means precision work and the end result you are after.

That is why we recommend professional hair products chosen for your situation. They are the same products we use on you when you are in for service, so you can get the same results at home.
And because we want you to actually love what you use, we stand behind every recommendation we make.
If you buy a product from us and it is not right for you, bring it back within 60 days. We will talk through what is not working, then you can choose a full refund or an exchange for something that suits you better.
Nobody should be stuck with a bottle they do not love sitting on the bathroom shelf.

Inside Our Red Deer Salon
Built From Reclaimed Wood
Jenn Sharpe (Owner/Master Stylist) grew up on a farm northwest of Drumheller, and it's a big part of her roots.
When the time came to renovate the salon, work was happening on the farm too. The windbreak that had sheltered the horses in the pasture was coming down, and the weathered wood was still good.
Jenn jumped at the chance to bring it to Red Deer to be part of the salon renovations. You will find it on the wall panelling at the front counter, and on the wall that separates the styling area from our colour room. Jenn says that every time she looks at the reclaimed wood, it takes her back to the farm and reminds her of the calm of being around the horses.
That's the feeling we want you to have while you're at Sharper Image.
A Comfortable Place to Sit for an Hour
We strive to make Sharper Image a salon where everyone is welcome. Our goal is to make each experience at Sharper Image a comfortable, friendly and relaxing one. Our last renovation guided the salon into a modern rustic interior which has special roots tied to our owner and staff.
Whether you are coming in from work in a uniform or overalls, or showing up in your t-shirt and jeans all the way to your wedding attire, you are welcome here.
Throughout the year we offer in-salon events such as our Beach Day, braiding classes, Scalp Nights, and a number of client contests where we give away incredible prizes. It's our way of honouring you for continuing to be our client. We are always open to your feedback to help us make the salon a great place to be.
Why We Never Rush the Shampoo
At Sharper Image we think the shampoo should be more than simply washing your hair. It is an important part of the visit, and one that should never be rushed or forgotten.
Every wash includes a scalp massage, because we know how good it feels to slow down and let someone else take care of you for a few minutes. It is also when your stylist gets a proper look at your scalp, which tells us a lot about what your hair needs.
The salon world is changing, and some places have trimmed this part down to save time. We have not. It is the anchor of the service, and it is a moment that belongs to you.
The little things are what make the difference, from the products we use to the way we handle your hair. So settle in and enjoy it.
What Leaves Our Salon
Doesn't Go To The Landfill
Sharper Image is a sustainable salon, and here is how we work to make sure the work we do carries a lower environmental impact.
We spent considerable time finding companies that would be a good fit to help us recycle the products we use to bring beauty to our clients. In the summer of 2024, we began working with Style Recycling, an Alberta company that collects our salon waste on a regular schedule and keeps it out of the landfill. We sort everything into four bins:
- Hair
- Foils/Tubes
- Plastics & aerosol cans
- Paper and cardboard
They provide the bins and the bags, and they handle the pickup.
The hair is the part that surprises people. According to Style Recycling, Catapult Environmental "take our recycled hair, turn it into compost creating natural gas to heat homes." (Source: stylerecycling.ca)
Having this partnership has enabled us to put on new events such as the Cabinet of Broken Dreams, where clients bring in their half-used products that didn't live up to their promises and get new professional products with a special discount on event day.

We are on Howarth Street, just off Taylor Drive in the Highland Green community, within a 10 minute drive of most Red Deer neighbourhoods.
If you are making a short trip in from great central Alberta communities such as Sylvan Lake, Blackfalds, Innisfail or Penhold, you will be welcome here. You can access our salon from Highway 2, east on 67 Street, and south via Taylor Drive.
